ROSSBY WAVES AND EXTREME WEATHER

The magnitude and duration of heat waves and floods that occurred in recent summers are disproportionate. The reasons for these extreme weather events are changes in the circulation pattern in the northern hemisphere: quasi-stationary synoptic rossby waves with high amplitude persist over specific regions for weeks - with substantial impacts on the society and the environment.
